The Flag
Uttarakhand does not have a flag of its own, although presented here is one suggested design that takes into consideration the history and culture of the land and her people. Although this is not official, as no states except Jammu-Kashmir are allowed by the constitution to have their own flag, a symbol of pride for any region is essential for national self-affirmation. There are various aspects of the flag that are of symbolic value:
- Forest Green Field - represents mountain ecosystem and our need to preserve and protect it.
- Three Mountains - represents the Himalayas
- Large Sun - indicates a new bright dawn for the Himalayas and her peoples
- Indian Flag - Uttarakhand remains an integral part of India
- Top Right Indigo Pennant w/ crescent moon - Kedarnath (Shiva)
- BottomÊRight Royal Blue Pennant w/ sun disc - Badrinath (Vishnu)
