The following clippings, available here for the first time, were painstakingly collected by Parashar Gaur, the director and producer of the first Garhwali language film, Jagwal in 1983. Now residing in Toronto, Canada, Gaur recently shared his archives that also includes photo stills from Jagwal and various other theatrical productions that pay tribute to Uttarakhand culture.

I am publishing the newsprint photos below in order to further document the Uttarakhand Andolan whose heroes (and mostly heroines) were many, involving the common people of the land in the struggle for the future. And though the creation of "Uttaranchal" has brought about a lull in the movement, the quest for social justice, cultural renewal, and a new dawn in the hills continues.
